FlexTraining Introduces SCORM>

Tampa, FL - May 13, 2009

National Training Systems (NTS), maker of the FlexTraining Total E-Learning Solution, has formally adopted the SCORM standard as an option for its popular E-Learning solution. This strategic advancement will increase the adoption of FlexTraining by government institutions, municipalities, and other large national and international customers. FlexTraining has been a sustained market leader in non-SCORM Learning Management Systems.

To supply the SCORM Engine - the software that drives the SCORM content import and processing - NTS selected Rustici Software of Brentwood , TN. Rustici is a dedicated SCORM developer with years of experience in this highly-specialized niche market.

SCORM Engines and SCORM formatted content are primarily broken into two structural schemes: SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004. NTS has chosen SCORM 1.2 because of its relative simplicity and the wide variety of training content available in this format.

The new SCORM module will be available as an optional "add-on" to the established, full-featured FlexTraining Learning Management System. This will allow non-SCORM customers to retain their economical training solution without having to help support the cost of this new functionality. At the same time, new FlexTraining customers will have the ability to purchase the new SCORM module if needed, as will existing customers who have maintained their annual software maintenance agreements.

What SCORM Does

The Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) defines a specific way of constructing online training content so that it can be used with other "SCORM conformant" systems, sometimes with modification. Basically, SCORM helps a Learning Management System deliver and manage learning from external third-party sources.

SCORM is widely adopted by many large organizations, especially outside the US. As one example, the US Department of Defense has specified that all of its learning content must be delivered via SCORM, and that any Learning Management Systems it purchases should be "SCORM compliant" in some capacity.

Rustici Software is a growing company focused entirely on SCORM and other learning standards. They point out that they "are small enough to provide fantastic support and personal interaction, yet large enough to have the horsepower to take on complex tasks." Rustici has been solving SCORM problems exclusively since 2003, and plans to be innovating on learning systems for years to come.

SCORM and FlexTraining

SCORM is a protocol for integrating vendor-developed packaged online learning material with a Learning Management System developed by a separate vendor and is often widely misunderstood. It is not a "plug-in" standard that provides instant interoperation without development or testing.

For a company new to online training, it is worth noting that FlexTraining customers can utilize existing training material, such as Flash, Video, HTML, or PowerPoint, without using additional interfaces like SCORM. In fact, most customers simply author their interactive, multimedia courses from scratch, using the FlexTraining authoring tools. The bottom line is that you can make life simple for your training department, keep your content options open, and hold down costs and complexity by utilizing a full-featured LMS such as FlexTraining.

The innovative FlexTraining learning management software powers training to more than one million students worldwide and can be customized to meet the online training needs of virtually any type of industry. Secure access, top-down authorization, and a built-in address book function boost internal and external communication capabilities. A robust series of point-and-click setup screens allow administrators to select features that are tailored to meet the needs of online learners without programming.

FlexTraining is a complete Learning Management System that works with any web browser over the Internet or a corporate Intranet. It lets customers author, build, deliver, and manage custom online training and testing over a local or distributed network.
