Overview

Online Development, maker of the FlexTraining Web Based Education system, proposes that   XXXXXXXXXXXX  acquire and implement the full FlexTraining software package as the basis for its Web Based Training project.

Online Development will provide:

Support plans beyond the initial 30-day Installation period are optional, and are described below.

This document outlines the software product itself, the software licensing terms, and a suggested implementation plan and timeframe for deployment.  The aggressive deployment schedule is possible only because of the simple integrated architecture and streamlined design of the FlexTraining solution.

Flextraining software is developed and supported by Online Development.  Online Development has been in business since 1995 and at the same location since 1996.  More information is provided in the section entitled Company Background below.

FlexTraining Software

Software Architecture

FlexTraining requires a web server machine running Windows NT Version 4.0, and the Microsoft Internet Information Server Version 4.  It is compatible with any ODBC-driven database package you wish to use, including MS Access and SQL Server.

Software Modules

FlexTraining includes four modules, each with its own screens, menus, and security:

1. Administration Module

A simple, secure, web-based menu provides the ability to:

These features let you define and schedule courses, control and monitor Training activity, and define your operating environment, without programming or complex setup tasks on the server.

2. Student Module

This web-based module lets students and prospective students:

3. Instructor Module

Assigning an Instructor, usually a subject matter expert, is done at your discretion.  You decide, on a class-by-class basis, whether an Instructor will be used.  If you asign an instructor, he or she will use th Instructor Module to interact with the class, review or print class-related information, and to access the Discussion Forum, if a forum is active.

Installation & Administration Guide

FlexTraining comes with an Installation / Administration guide which covers the initial setup, and ongoing operation, of the system.  It includes instructions on how to asemble and schedule each course, and how to manage and monitor ongoing training.

In addition, an online Help system is available from the Student Menu.

FlexTraining Features and Benefits

The FlexTraining simplified system architecture and robust user-friendly front-end let you quickly and easily assemble and odder Web Based Training.  FlexTraining offers a number of advantages, which may be examined according to the system feature:

Feature

Benefit

FlexTraining is web-based, requiring no additional client software.

Faster startup, low startup costs, low operational costs.

FlexTraining is scalable; it runs as well with 5 students or 200.

Ideal for one course or many; for small classes or large.

FlexTraining has unattended automated enrollment processing, and Credit Card processing integration.

Students enroll (and pay, if you establish a fee) without requiring your staff's time and attention.

Course sections, content, tests, discussion groups are all presented in an asynchronous (no Chat Rooms) mode.

Students participate at their convenience, day, night, or weekends.

FlexTraining section content is delivered in an HTML framework, including text, photos, charts, graphs, images, etc.

Offers a wide variety of options for building and formatting course content.

FlexTraining supports training courses on any topic, of any course length.

Works for a short pilot class, or an intense course running over many weeks.

FlexTraining supports as many course sections, course assignments, and tests as you need.

You may choose to have one test, no tests, or one per section. It's the same with course assignments.

FlexTraining serves up prepared course content, one section at a time and/or provides a high degree of interaction between student and instructor.

Fits high-tech/low interaction needs, or the high-touch, low-tech scenario.

FlexTraining does not rely on video, sound clips or high-bandwidth proprietary file formats.

It also works for students with slow Internet or Intranet connections.

FlexTraining lets students sign up for courses over the network, through web-based forms.

Course Registration does not consume the time and efforts of your staff.

Each student in each FlexTraining class has his or her own online notebook.

Students log their ideas, questions, insights in a place where notes can't get lost.

You may choose to implement FlexTraining on your own internal network, or have classes conducted on our servers, over the Internet.

Offer courses with no systems resources or staff, leaving all operations up to us. Or, bring the system in-house.

FlexTraining runs on Microsoft's IIS Web Server, which comes free with Windows NT Server.

Lower software costs, faster implementation, for those choosing to deploy internally.

System Security

FlexTraining utilizes Windows NT's NTFS security, which means that your internal Access Control Lists are used to permit or deny access to the FlexTraining applications.  Since each FlexTraining module is defined as a separate application,  access to each may be easily limited to different users and User Groups.

For example, you may decide to limit access to the Administration Module to one or two Course Designers and Administrators.

The FlexTraining Student Module and Instructor Module also have database-resident user lists and passwords for Students and Instructors.  Each student can only sign on to the course for which he is registered, and each Instructor may only sign on to the course for which he is the designated Instructor.

Software Warranty

If a demonstrable error is found in the FlexTraining software, we will:

  1. Research the error
  2. Develop a fix for the error
  3. Supply you with the fix in a timely manner, depending on the severity of the error.

Support

Technical / Software Support

FlexTraining software is easy to install and configure, relative to traditional maniframe and LAN-based applications.  However, FlexTraining includes 30 days of Phone and E-mail based support in case there are Installation Questions, or issues with the construction of your first few courses.  We will normally address any issues you E-mail or call us with during the same day.

We intend to support you at a level sufficient to insure that your training project is a success, by all accounts.

Annual Support Plans:

Annual Support Plans are available after the install period, as follows.

Support Option

Annual Fee

Description

Upgrades only

12% of then-current list price

Future versions of the software are sent to you a they are released.

Upgrades and Support

20% of then-current list price

Future versions of the software and phone-based and email-based help, for issue resolution.

Software Enhancements

As you use your FlexTraining Web Based Training solution, you may identify additional features you would like to see in the software.  You are welcome to submit a request for enhancement to us at any time.

We will evaluate each such request and determine the applicability and usefulness of the identified enhancement to the Web Based Training software market as a whole.

If the proposed enhancement is deemed appropriate for the entire market, we will incorporate it into future releases of the software at no additional cost.

Source Code

Each FlexTraining license includes the actual source code for all ASP pages, which make up roughly 95% of the FlexTraining code.  The other 5% are Java Applets used for utility functions, such as building an-on screen list.

You are entitled to modify the code in any manner you wish, if you need functionality or on-screen text that is not provided in the standard FlexTraining software.  Be aware that the modification of FlexTraining code may make the installation of upgrades more difficult, since any changes you make would likely have to be re-applied.

Additional Services

We encourge you to build your own course content, whether its static or dynamic, using popular tools like Microsoft Front Page, NetObjects Fusion, RoboHelp, or any other tool that can create web-delivered material.

If you need assistance in content-building or in converting material from another format like Microsoft Word or another Word-processor, we can provide professional services in that area.

These types of services would be performed on an hourly basis, at the rate of $75 per hour.

Online Development has been developing web-based software applications since 1996.  As web development becomes more of a commodity due to the improvement in web-authoring tools, our ability to design and implement back-end processes and data to support dynamic content is our strong suit.

We do the majority of our work under very strict non-disclose agreements, but the following some application development projects we have completed:

1. The Performance Benchmarking Center

The PB Center was multi-user Performance Benchmarking system, with web-based Results Reporting and Dynamic Queries and downloads.   We developed this system in 1996, and hosted it through March 1998.
